Norway Maple (Acer Platanoides), Tag No. 2379 (Tree does not have a TPO according to Winchester Council TPO map) The client's patio is unusable due to the amount of bird droppings (See attachments 'Photo 1' & 'Photo 2') coming from birds perching in the overhanging tree. The tree overhangs the client's boundary line by approximately four meters and the number of birds has significantly increased since the adjacent tree; another Norway Maple (Tag No. 2380) of similar size was removed in December 2025. My client has also sent an email at the end of June to both the property management company and a member of the Residents Association to inform of the intended works but has had no reply. The scope of works is to reduce the east south-eastern side by approximately 2-3m back to towards the boundary line, targeting horizontal branches that birds are likely to sit on, while leaving angled/diagonal branches to maintain the natural shape of the tree.

T63 Cherry. Fell. The cherry tree is in decline, with one of the co-dominant stems now dead. The remaining crown has become overextended, and several branches are in direct contact with the adjacent building. Justification While it would be possible to reduce the crown to provide clearance, the extent of pruning required would be significant and would result in a poor, unbalanced appearance due to the tree's previous history of inappropriate pruning. Such works would not represent good arboricultural practice and are unlikely to provide a sustainable long-term solution. Given the tree's declining condition, the dead co-dominant stem, its proximity to the building, and the limited scope for sympathetic pruning, removal of the tree is recommended. T41 Sycamore, having experienced two recent branch failures. It is located at the base of a bank, adjacent to a busy public footpath and near other mature trees. Justification The crown contains mostly elongated, overextended lateral branches with a leggy form, which are considered to have contributed to the recent branch failures. To reduce the likelihood of further failures and improve the tree's structural integrity, it is proposed to reduce the affected overextended branches by up to 4m. Pruning cuts will not exceed 55mm in stem diameter and all works will be undertaken in accordance with BS 3998(2010) ? Tree Work Recommendations, retaining the tree's natural form and amenity value while reducing end-weight on the elongated limbs. T55 Yew Reduce the height of the yew by no more than 2.5m (approximately 20% of the crown height) and reduce the lateral canopy spread by up to 2 metres to re-establish a compact, well-balanced crown and provide a sustainable framework for future management. Justification The tree has developed an overextended crown with elongated branch growth beyond its natural form. The remaining stem will then be reduced in height by approximately 2 metres, pruning back to suitable growth points to maintain the tree?s health and structural integrity.
