2no. Alders (A & B) - Pollarding to 3m. Dieback in crowns and in close proximity to the ditch and highway stone path to rear of garden. Trees were listed as mature in 1994 and after a further 30yrs are now coming towards the end of their normal life (60-100 years), they drop dead and rotten wood throughout the year. One tree had split into multiple trunks in its infancy and the weight of these individual trunks, hang over a path regularly used by school children which represents an additional concern. The intentions of these works is to extend the life of these trees and associated amenity by decreasing end-weight and thus reduce the risk of branch failure and support long-term tree health and amenity. Pollarding will also encourage fresh and vigorous growth and reduce the risk of them being uprooted in strong winds, several large nearby trees have been uprooted by wind including 2 mature oaks. Work will also allow further light into the greater general wooded area where many small tree are already growing and fighting for light and space to grow, including a mature Oak hidden behind these 2 trees. Future, it is expected that these trees will need pollarding back to 3m every 3-5 years. There is also a juvenile holly tree intertwined between and within these 2 trees, will be saved during this work, but it is suggested that this tree will be trimmed to ensure an aesthetic looking tree line during the process. Suggested that this work be carried out during the winter months to ensure minimum stress to the tree and cause minimum effect on bird life.
