Proposed works: Prune back the lateral branches overhanging the shared boundary into the adjoining property, cutting back to suitable growth points at or as close as reasonably practicable to the boundary. The works are intended to reduce the significant encroachment into the adjoining property and provide appropriate clearance from the adjoining building and access area. T1 Elder - this tree has been completely overwhelmed by ivy, the weight of which, combined with the extended hot and dry summer, has meant at least a couple of limbs have failed in the canopy. In order to preserve the tree and ensure its longevity, we will remove all the ivy down to fence height and prune the canopy back to a strong structural framework. Prop and restrain tree during works to avoid movement or shocks being transmitted via roots to party garden wall 4m from tree (on advice of structural engineer) OPTION - Pollard Remove all failed and failing limbs and pollard remaining tree if able to retain following tree surgeon advice.
T1 Magnolia Grandiflora - a beautiful and much-loved specimen growing near to the rear of the property. Applying for a general reduction in the canopy by up to 2m in height from 7m to 5m and by approx. 1m in radial spread in all directions from 4m to 3m. Also, a slight lifting of the canopy by 1m, so that it is level with the top of the boundary wall. The idea is to present a more compact, globular form which doesn't restrict the view of the garden from the rooms on that side of the property.
T1 London plane (Platanus x hispanica), located within the rear garden of The Nyth, Pond Road, Blackheath, SE3 9JL. Proposed works: Carry out targeted crown reduction and weight reduction works to the London plane tree. Reduce the overall crown by approximately 5 to 6 metres, pruning back to suitable secondary growth points where practicable. Reduce the over-extended limbs to the north and south by up to approximately 8 to 10 metres, pruning back into the main crown line to suitable growth points. Remove two large hung-up limbs / failed limbs from within the crown. Carry out light crown thinning only where required to improve crown balance and reduce excessive limb loading. The works are to be carried out sympathetically, with the aim of reducing excessive end weight and mechanical stress while retaining the tree?s natural form, veteran character, amenity value and ecological value as far as reasonably practicable. Reason for works: An aerial inspection was carried out on 24 July 2026. The inspection identified large cavities within the main stem and primary scaffold limbs, together with over-extended limbs and areas of mechanical loading. The attached report recommended targeted pruning and weight reduction to reduce the likelihood of major limb or stem failure while retaining the tree for the long term. Since the aerial inspection, three large limbs have failed on two separate occasions within the last three weeks, with two large limbs now hung up within the crown. It is considered likely that prolonged drought conditions have placed additional stress on the tree and may have contributed to sudden branch drop. The proposed works are therefore required to remove the hung-up limbs, reduce excessive end weight on the over-extended northern and southern limbs, improve crown balance and reduce the likelihood of further major limb failure.
Front garden . Fell - Silver Birch 5m height width 4.5 m . The tree is in severe decline and most of its dead . The base of the tree is rotten and the owners worried as it's next to a public path . The tree would like to replace with Acer liquid amber .

T1 Robinia pseudoacacia - The tree continues to lean more and more through the boundary line of a private resident's garden. The large lower limb which grows towards the East is covering most of the private garden of no.9 and is exposed to any strong southerly winds which have brought down a number of limbs from mature trees in the immediate vicinity over the past few weeks. We feel it is prudent to reduce this limb by 5m from 7m to 2m back to a strong vertical growth point in order to reduce the sail effect. Furthermore we aim to reduce the height of the tree by 3m from 9m to 6m back to previous reduction points in order to achieve a more compact form and, again, limit the sail effect of this heavily leaning tree.
